SCAM ALERT and This is How Greedy/Stupid MBNA Are

I agree with RobertoMoir, you should be more worried about your personal details being out there in the public domain. However, I can also see Mark99 point of view that as an additional safety measure MBNA could indeed only begin to process balance transfers once a card has been activated. This would be a prudent step but one which would perhaps not stop the determined fraudster. Having worked for a credit card company in a past life I am familiar with most of the methods used by fraudsters to obtain credit but that still did not stop me falling victim to current account fraud on one occasion. Let us not presume there is blame to be attached to the OP for this. Certainly there is a warning to be heeded about taking care over your personal identifiable information.0

Surely to transfer a balance from card to another there has to be a history that can be traced? Could this not be an error of the banks?0

You'd think so, wouldn't you.Could this not be an error of the banks?
Possibly not. The OP says in their first post that MBNA have confirmed the card was applied for fraudulently.If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -
To the OP - whilst I agree with some of the other posters in relation that your details have got about somehow, I'd get a note put on your credit file too - just in case.My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.0

give up bickering with one another, mark has every right to be annoyed if he sees fit as it was his personal details involved. I'm sure he's now taking every precaution to make sure his details are kept private. His post on here was to raise awareness of this kind of thing, so for replies that are abrupt and quite frankly rude, i'm not suprised it sparked a rude reply back. Sometimes peoples replies to posts on here make you wonder why we even bother to get involved in the first place.0

Given the tone of the OP's first post which was a tad sensationalist (but perhaps understandable) I think you are some way off the mark. You have to remember this isn't a support group. It is merely a forum where people are free to express a view or opinion. Sometimes this may "appear" abrupt but I think the comments made on this thread have been considered and do contribute. If the OP was merely raising awareness he wouldn't have posted subjective statements such as;
"MBNA do not appear to take steps to protect applicants - they are too busy sending out your first statements or initiating fraudulant transactions before you have even received or activated the card.
PATHETIC.
They (MBNA) deserve to be stung for this £10K for being stupid/greedy".0 -

I'm honestly not sure what this adds to the discussion. At best you've achieved the same level of "rudeness" that you accuse others of.If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -
and what did you add?0
