I live in a new build that has a restriction with regards erection of fences. It is supposed to be kept open plan (at the front of the house). We want thave a fence or brick wall erected (1) to keep people off our garden, for some reason people think they can walk over our property and (2) to stop land sliding into next door's property. Does anyone know of a way round this. We don't want to consider planting we would like to get planning permission but would appreciate any advice on the "line to take" when applying for planning permission.

People who have a restriction on putting up a solid boundary fence, usually revert to planting rows of laurel bushes in the form of a hedge.
I'm sure I've never seen anyone allowed to put a wall or fence up in the restricted areas where I work. Nearly all of the corner bungalows have laurels hedge rows.
I don't see the difference myself, its still a boundary wall / fence / bush / hedge.
I would imagine it might be costly to challenge the planning authorities to get permission.
It might be why everyone else puts a laurel hedge up instead

I have similar contraints on fencing, however I put up five 1m wooden posts 10ft apart with two wires through the posts, this is being used for climbers to grow along, from a distance the wires give the impression of open plan while stopping people taking a short cut.0
