Help With Freesat Installation ?

We bought a humax foxsat box yesterday at comet & can't get it to install. When we get to step 2 "freesat detection" it doesnt find any, just keeps searching for hours. What might this be ?
He has connected the cable from the sky dish through a splitter so he can still use sky to record, just until it gets cut off later this month... is this the probem?

  • Oh dear. You cannot use cable splitters on satellite receivers. End of. A satellite box controls the LNB. You effectively have two things trying to control the same LNB and it doesn't work.

If he cuts the power to the Sky box, he will most likely find the Humax works.

Yes, you cannot split a satellite lead, it will not function like that.

Put the original Sky Satellite lead in to the Freesat Receiver and it should be fine.

ok ta. :) He had heard somebody else say they put on a splitter but didnt think it would work...
he wants to run sky alongside freesat for some reason (maybe to record ?) but I dont myself understand any of it. (which is normal for me...)

ok he is asking --he has 2 cables from the sky dish going into the sky box. Can he take one off and put it into the freesat box ?

Yes, but it will stop the Sky+ box recording one channel whilst viewing another.
He does know that the Sky box will continue to receive the freesat(from Sky) channels when your subscription runs out, but not the recording function?
You could run an additional cable down from a spare connection on the LNB ( I'm assuming as you have Sky + you have a quad LNB)
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Indeed, and make sure you keep the card, it will work as a FreesatfromSky Card, giving channel 5 etc.

ok, many thanks for all help in here. I dunno how you have the patience for this stuff - personally I'd just open a good book and a nice wee bottle instead. :)
