Hey just read your post and it was as if you had read my mind. I have just booked to stay in the city hotel in Feb and was wondering about the parking.
Let me know how you get on, i have never visited the city before.

Well we are back safe & sound:D

We parked at the front of the hotel and checked in and there were lots of spaces in their own car park, so that was good. Were not impressed with the room, was very small and also an ajoining room, but asked to be moved and got a much larger and nicer room :D

Facilities were good, used the pool, jacuzzi and steam room. We ate in the hotel the first evening, 2 courses + bottle of wine for 2, £25, good deal. Food was delicious and staff were nice.

Walked around the city and the walls the next day, very interesting. Ate in Flamin Jacks, again very nice food and good service.:T

So all in all a nice relaxing break and at a money saving price (£105 for the 2 nights b&b)

Thanks again for all the advice:beer:

  • Glad you had a good weekend and found the parking troublefree.
We have booked a family room as taking my daughter so hopefully its not tiny. What did you think of the pool etc because thats what we are most looking forward to.
What was the menu and food like?
Any tips that come to your mind about the hotel or area please post them.

pool is nice. not massive but usually quiet. nice jacuzzi & steam room along with a decent size gym.
proper steps down into the pool (not a ladder). the pool also has a corner cut off to make a shallow pool for younger kids.

We ended up with a family room (double & single bed) and it was spacious:D the pool - basically what Petedoherty said, it was never busy when we were there, they provide towels and lockers, you must wear a swimming hat in the pool.

I got a lot of leaflets/booklets posted to me in advance from the derry tourist board (emailed them) it was useful in reading about the city before we arrived, we also used the booklets/guides to walk around the walls etc ourselves.

The food in the hotel was lovely, menu was typical, about 6 starters (soup, melon, cheese etc) steak, chicken, pork, veg dishes for mains and the usual selection of desserts. Maybe ask the hotel to email or fax you a copy?

  • Jaime-V , glad you had a good time. I have never seen the pool myself but I recall the bedrooms. The food was fine when we were last there - staff were friendly too. The only time to avoid the underground car park in the City Hotel is if you see flooding! Apart from that its ideal if you get in because its free and there is a lift that takes you upstairs to the lobby (and of course the rooms) - very batman.
  • seems ages since i was there but had a really good time. Room very spacious pool excellent and was able to park in car park the whole of our stay. would recommend it for a short break and they didn't charge for my 10 year old woohoo
