Problem with my Monitor

Hi
I got a new monitor today and is playing hell with me !!!!
Basically when I boot the PC i manage to get to the windows XP (flashing bar) screen and can see this on the monitor - however after this the monitor just goes to sleep and cannot do anything. I have checked cables etc and the monitor is fine.
I tried my old monitor and it did the same thing so I have no idea whats wrong. I also plugged the monitor into my laptop and with this and using FN+F4 managed to see the desktop fine.....so even more puzzling !!!
I have managed to log in via safe mode and enabling VGA mode but the fonts are massive
Anybody know what the problem maybe? I thought it maybe the graphics card incompatability but why would not the old monitor work?
Thanks

change the desktop resolution to one the monitor can cope with, without knowing the monitor its hard to advise on what, but 1440x900 for a 19" widescreen 1024x768 for a 17" 4:3 are places to startUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

Given that you have the same problem with both the new and the old monitor, I suspect the problem does indeed rest with the pc (so the new monitor issue might just be a coincidence). Are u currently plugged in with the old monitor?BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!
