When trying to install XP on a sata drive, you are given an option of pressing F6 to install the sata drivers that are needed. When I press F6 nothing happens and the install tries to carry on until it says that no hard drive can be found.Any idea how I can make the F6 key work as it should.Oh by the way have used 3 diff boards. Thanks in desperation D.

Do you have SATA enabled in the bios?

I have a SATA drive and XP installed on it fine without doing anything out of the ordinary.
For your information, nothing 'does' happen when you press F6 - not straight away anyway - just wait until it finishes loading and then it will ask for the drivers.0 -
Yes sata enabled, and it doesn't ask for drivers,it starts to load windows stuff then says no drive found, and forces me to abort install.Funny that the abort key is F3 and it recognises that.Oh well,I am sure it will become clearer in the morning.Thankyou both.0

You have'nt got a usb keyboard or one with loads of features on it have you?
My F keys on my USB keyboard wont work when installing windows. try a bog standard ps2 one.0 -
Sounds like an earlier motherboard when SATA first came out. I had an Asus like that where it was fine on IDE but I had problems getting SATA to work. I didn't switch to booting off SATA though until I got a newer motherboard.
Firstly, check the BIOS, it may have a default boot interface. Maybe it's set to IDE as default.
Also make sure the drive is picked up during post (ie listed when the BIOS initialises)."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
Thanks all,it turned out to be a duff file on the driver disk,so not being recognised.Hours of headache for a 2 minute download. All up and running now,so thanks for your help.0
