as you are knowledgable I must ask you, then, where does the money come from, out of the assessed weekly benefit, for extras?..come on, I am dying to know...and I am only interested if you have been through what some of us have...as that is the only way in which you will be able to address complicated detail

the callousness on here, from some, is breathtaking

I can tell that some do not have kids...

I do not agree with the lady who seems to have one child, who at 12, was so 'unmaterialistic' [using her words] to not care about that [apparently!!...she may be shocked, as time goes on, to realise, though, what this can do, if some kids are made to feel so different to other kids].

MY kids!* are going to keep getting presents at Christmas...as I did...making happy memories which got me through hard times when older..
AND IN NO WAY!!!! HAS MADE ME MATERIALISTIC

you judgmental people really need to take a second look at things :(

    *giving is what it's about
This thread isn't about who has ben through the worst  you sit there and preach that we know nothing, guess what neither do you love.

only if you have the money to do it without getting into debt or not paying important bills.

And if your happy memories of childhood consist of whether you got the latest Barbie doll for Christmas, well I think that is a great shame. There is so much more to making a happy family, one of them is pulling together when times are tough.

This thread started by giving people sensible advice on how to budget when living on Benefits so that the latest change in payment dates does not impact upon their life too much. I think we should get it back on topic really, otherwise it will be moved or closed.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • I was surprised to read that Jobcentre Plus says no one will be without benefits for three weeks. It is 13/05 and I received a letter today telling me my four weekly payment due on the 19 will be for one week and I will receive my next four weekly payment 16/06, as the payments will now be in arrears.
This is a notice period of 5 days and I will lose 3 weeks of benefit effectively.
I am severely disabled and can do without this stress.
Can anyone offer advice re this problem?
    Many thanks
ps The letter says there is no right to appeal in this decision.:eek::eek::eek::eek:

 so your letter doesn't say anything about financial support available to you then?

Something along the lines of: to help you manage though the change you can apply for a loan of £xx.xx. No interest will be charged. You are required to pay this money back over x amounts.

There is no appeal because it's about to happen to everyone.

 I had a letter about a month and a half ago stateing that i would be moving to fortnightly payments. In the letter they listed the date of payments.. My first fortnightly payment was due today, no sign. I rang up the income support office, they apologised for their mistake and said that the payment of 208.00 would be in my bank by 5.00pm. Checked bank and i had a payment for 33.00!!! rang up again and was told that my first fortnightly payment was now 27th May!!! I have already had the loan that they said i could and have used that to pay phone bill!!! I am now left with 33.00 to live on for two weeks!!! have rung up to complain and there answer is it is paid in arrears!! I have had odd payments of 33.00 and 104.00... All gone on bills so i was straight for the first fortnightly payment. I have all this in writing, who can i speak to... I have been told so many different things!!! Who can i talk to???? none of the payments make sense what is going on!!!!

Did they really. That was jolly nice of them. It's clear you haven't a clue about such things from what you have posted including the amount you claim.

Right, so you got the loan all in the same day at the same time as all this? You do know, don't you you have to pay these loans back ... Okayyy.

also the loan is the same as 1weeks money so you have spent a weeks benefit on 1 bill

Dla is not affected according to the very first post in this thread

    What's this about?

This April sees the beginning of a big benefits payments procedural shake-up, between now and March 2011.

If you receive jobseekers allowance (JSA), incapacity benefits, income support, severe disablement allowance, bereavement benefit or widows benefit, your payment day and frequency will be altered at some point during the two-year roll out.

Those getting attendence allowance, disability allowance or carers allowance won't be affected.

yes i know dla is not part of this but some dla recipients used to get it paid weekly with incap/is if only one componentWAS PAID . but dla now pay everyone or are going too 4 weekly from now on but it does not fit into op argument as dla is for care/mobility needs and not weekly living expences.
  • Hi, just to say,no, there was no offer of help with my letter. I was told to read it carefully! Reading the other comments, it does seem that nothing can be done.
Does anyone else feel that we are at the mercy of these changes without any right of reply? They do seem to pick out the weak and vulnerable, knowing that we have no power to challenge these decisions. I'm grateful that I live in a society that provides this sort of help, but I do feel that it doesn't feel like a right, more a condescension on occasions, that can be altered or withdrawn at will.
I'm dependent on the system and scared to challenge it.
