Late CC Payments 6 1/2 years ago?

in Credit cards
I have just been viewing my credit reports from Equifax and Experian. I had a credit card with Alliance & Leicester (MBNA) which was settled in December 2003 which means it will not disappear under the six year rule until the end of this year.
I made late payments Feb to June 2002, hitting three months on two occasions.
I was unwell at the time, and was not at all responsible with money. There are no late payments from July 2002 until I cancelled the card entirely at the end of 2003 (I actually don't think I used it in that time).
I understand that if I had defaulted the account these blemishes would have falled off my record by now. Since they are 'only' late payments, Equifax advise they will not disapear until six years from the date the account was settled. However five months of late payments doesn't look good!
Is there anything that I can do? From reading around MSE it doesn't seem like MBNA are the nicest of companies to deal with. I know this is my fault but it doesn't seem fair to still have this on my record so long after the fact.

What are you trying to do? Do you have current credit agreements that are up to date? If so, I doubt that anything that old would make much difference to your position.0

As long as you have a good recent credit history I wouldn't worry about it. I'm not sure you can get it removed anyway0

I don't really have much current credit history: no credit cards since. Equifax don't have my present current account or present mobile phone contract listed - just an Avon account, settled mobile contract and this very poorly managed credit card.
The most important one out of the three with five months of late payments doesn't seem to good to me.
I rang MBNA just now and the chap was really helpful. They want me to write in, which is fair enough, but my darn battery died as I was getting the address! Will just send a letter to the one from the Experian website.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
