Icesave FSCS - petition for interest up to date compensation paid

  • Compensation for the first 20K euros was because Brown and Darling realised that via the FSA, the govt sponsored passport scheme would have been a monumental disaster. Remember that 230,000 Icesaver votes falling in marginal constituencies would ensure the fall of the Brown regime. Purely political motives with a cautious glance at Dutch ING allowed to run the same scheme.
Really, I have not been treated any way favourably, and less so than depositors in Northern Rock or Bradford and Bingley.

It will exceeded its obligations to everyone who had money at Icesave, because it was not obliged to pay any compensation at all for the first £17,000 deposited.

Presumably you are aware that you had the option to take up a claim against the Icelandic Depositors and Investors Guarantee Fund. However ungrateful you are, I think you are a lot better off with the FSCS than you would be if you had to do that.

Sorry, that's a fair enough point. I get carried away where Brown is concerned cos I think he's going to ruin so many lives. Anyway, I won't go on about it again! :)

Actually better to just not think about it at all & just get drunk I think.
  • Good idea. Pubs now open 24 hrs, while the Govt worries about binge drinking.
    It's called joined-up thinking.

Sorry, off-topic and political. I'll get me coat.

No UK saver lost any money as a result of the failure of BCCI

You mean "... has yet lost any money as a result ...".

Re-payments from BCCI are still being made right now, some 18 years after the bank collapsed.

There was a piece on today's Radio 4 Moneybox saying that the FSCS are aware of the shortcomings of the claim process and have a consultation exercise going on about it at the moment (which, amongst other things, is talking about paying claims within ~7days!).

The links aren't yet up on the BBC site, but presumably, they will be soon. You'll be able to listen to the radio show on iplayer from later today, it's about 25 minutes in.

edit: found a link to a release about the consultation paper: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1406007
