Best value paint etc please

I agree that cheap paint is a false economy. I personally have only used Dulux mixed on site paint for the last few years, but that is only because I cannot get what I want off the shelf. My local B&Q is a trade store also, and they sell the trade version of this paint. It seems to be of better quality and go on much nicer, smoother and quicker than the domestic version. Is it a different "recipe" does anyone know?

I bought some of the Homebase 'Flawless Finish' paint on 10% day - their 2.5l tins are currently half price - £6.99. (5l tins are £21.99)

Trade versions of Dulux & Crown are both different 'recipes' to retail variants. The retail types have more 'fillers' to bulk the paint out, and so less opacifying agent%, so usually more coats required. Trade paint is always much better.

Just for interest McPherson do a white emulsion called Eclipse, which coversout in 1 coat. I have tried it an d it is v.good.
