I have a few c/c's & have always applied via the net. I have never had any problems till now!!, am i right in thinking if you apply via the net, they ask you all your account details etc & the direct debit is set up automatically?.
Got the morgan stanley cashback card & all the bonus was eaten up as apparantly a direct debit had never been set up on the account!!. I am livid
as this has never happened before & nothing i can say will get them to wipe out their charges, baring in mind i pay the whole amount on time for every other c/c i have!!!!
Am i the one in the wrong?, thanks in advance for any advice

The only card I've had that automatically set up a DD was Egg. Morgan Stanley are certainly not alone in not doing this as standard (4 of my other cards didn't.) I'm afraid that if asking nicely hasn't done the trick then you might have to grin and bear the charge - sorry
Tends to be safest never to assume anything!

MSDW does collect payment by DD.
Always check with your bank (a/c) that DD has been set up. Also check that your cc statement state (printed) that the minimum payment will be collected by DD on .....(date) .
If the above are in order, then if CC co fail to collect the money by DD then it is their fault and you should not charged for it.Regards

None of my cards set up a dd automatically when opening, mainly because not everybody is happy with dd's, and in a way to do so by default, would be considered an infringement of your rights/liberties.
The onus is with you, to choose the way to pay from the options available, not to be forced into one particular method, no matter how sensible that may seem to you.
Sorry.

I would get livid - these charges are illegal. Take a look at https://www.bankchargeshell.co.uk to see why.

Sorry but from your signiature, you seem not to have been living up to your username. How much time and effort did that take.
No offence but to not follow the rules of the game, "beat the bank's fine print conditions" leads to penalties. You may get away with them sometimes, not others. Most annoying when it happens, but it most likely is YOUR fault, but to keep on letting it happen is laziness at least.
A bit like parking on double yellow lines, best not too and so avoid any penalties, why play financial Russian Roulette?
Avoidance of charges in this cat and mouse world is one of the reasons for this sites existance.

Edit. these charges may be immoral and are illegal wrt Banks but afaik no legal precedence as far as credit cards. The links re cc charges is a year old, and nothing seems to have happened other than words so far.ac's lovechild0 -
I recently applied and received an RBS Platinum Card with the 9 months transfer and purchase 0% interest...
When I applied online I gave my Natwest account details, I assumed 'Wrongly' that was for the Direct Debit!
I received my 1st bill and thought Direct Debit don't worry about it.
2nd Bill £20 late payment charge and 'Did you forget to pay your last bill?'
Phoned them up, they told me the account details were for added security details!!! Nice little earner for them more likely!!!
Discussed this with them, asked and received refund of charges and DD form arrived in the post yesterday. :j
Received my Morgan Stanley card on Friday - will be asking for a DD form on Monday!0 -
