  • when on here i cannot get into the links.......

Can you explain this a little more please? What happens when you click on a link? Any error messages? Does it only happen on this site?

Your post also suggests that you might be using Zonealarm as well as the XP SP2 firewall - if that is the case I would recommend turning OFF the XP firewall.

when i click on the link it just freezes - nothing happens for ages, then just resorts back to page i clicked the link on - doesnt go to the link

yes, i think i have the winxp sp2 firewall on too - how do i turn it off?

    thanks for helping
  • To turn off the XP firewall:

Start button --> Help and Support --> Security & Privacy --> Firewalls and secure networking.

The first task listed should be 'Enable or Disable internet Connection Firewall'

(All the above is from a NON-SP2 PC, but I doubt if things have changed that much. :))

You didn't say whether or not you get the same problem on other sites? On a couple of occasions, I have noticed the same thing happening on this site, and have just put it down to the overloaded server which the site is currently running on.

To be honest, if it's not happening elsewhere, I would leave well alone for now - at least until the new forum software is up and running here.

Try re-installing the zonealarm and avast again.

I have installed both on friends PCs and they are working fine.

Avast has a new version, 4.5.

I don't use Zonelarm as I have a router for broadband.

We all use Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird for added security.

Avast is the only free AV that integrates with Thunderbird.

thank you - i finally know what ncase is - all this time i have had popups saying i have deleted ncase and to re-install it, etc, no wonder i am always having problems....

    thank you for your patience....

    kez
  • If you are getting popups telling you that NCASE has been deleted and that you need to reinstall, it suggests that at least part of it is still on your system somewhere. :(

You might want to take another look at the ncase link above and follow the removal instructions given there.

I have used both AVG and Norman with Thunderbird and they work fine. What did you mean exactly?
