Thanks for all your help. Other daughter was made redundant in November from her job in land procurement. Both have good work ethics and she started a job the next week in a sports internet office on customer complaints -- and the pay is £ 6 an hour so not an enormous amount coming in.
Daughter doing retraining is working 1 or 2 nights a week in a bar as much as they will have her.
Bus pass impossible we live in a tiny viallge and the college is 10 plus miles away

I was wondering if anyone knew if there were any benefits she could claim and yes it does have an impact on us but we are trying our best to help in advice and practical ideas

Chalky, from the figures in your post, your daughter is earning £151 per week.
    Her expenses are.
    • Petrol 50
    • Gym 7
    • Plus her car Mot/servicing/tax 15
So, this leaves her with £79 per week out of which to pay her rent and buy whatever she needs.

Also, when she is not at college, her petrol expenses should drop.

Is there anyone she offer a lift to, who could help towards petrol expenses?

I think you are going to have to look at the basic income and expenses for both girls and then work out a figure for them to pay.
You would be better off with them both paying £100 than only one paying £150 ;)

  • hi there, don't know if you have looked into it but depending on how many hours a week your daughter is in college and if her course qualifies she may be able to get an adult learning grant, think its about £30 a week I found this on the direct website and theres probably links on there for applying http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAndLearning/AdultLearning/FinancialHelpForAdultLearners/Adultlearninggrant/index.htm
might be worth looking at because if she could get it maybe you could have an arrangement that the money from that went straight to you and then shes paying near enough the same as your other daughter without it coming out of her pocket if you see what I mean, hope this helps

Hisadly she is not eligible for theALG as she did a Nursery Nursing Course at16 !!! If she had done A levels she would be eligible. Cant see that makes much sense really.
