I have a Gateway 1Mhz P3 which, whenever I add any internal bits ie pci card, memory, it resets the bios (back to original 2001 defaults) and in turn corrupts AVG.
Boots fine otherwise.
Anybody any ideas.

The BIOS information is retained through the use of a battery (usually looking like a large watch battery) on the motherboard. My guess is the connection for that battery isn't too great which is why you lost the data when you're pulling and pushing hardware too and from the motherboard. It usually just has a metal contact holding it in on top, might be worth checking that out to see if it can be pushed further onto the battery.0
