Router Speed Not Matching Speedtest Result

Guys,
my D-Link router is reporting upstream/downstream bandwidths of 256k/3300k respectively, however if I run Speedtest or Speedcheck.ispconnect, they both report in the region of 200k/2800k.
Is this a reasonably normal discrepancy, or is there anything I can tweak in the router to try and up the reported speed at my pc ??
Hanx in advance....

that's fine. due to BTs profiling system, and considering you're with aol/tt (256k upload
)quite good

The ISP can restrict the download speeds at busy times, but mostly its due to overheads in the data, and there is nothing that can be done about it.That gum you like is coming back in style.0

hanx guys, saves me wasting loads of time playing about. I'm off to check for a bell-wire later when I have time...shouldn't think that's an issue as house is only 18 months old, but you never know. Oh, and I'm on tiscali (full line rental, calls and bb) who have been fine for me for a good few years (i know, I know, I'm one of the lucky ones
), but a reasonable distance from the exchange and on pretty old cabling from there to my local connection point, so can't complain too much. Since I went onto a tiscali line, my bb is around 3 times faster than it was, due to lack of capacity in BT's exchange kit
