You might want to look at asking a local auction house, at least they might know what you have, the problem with ebay is that you will need to have some idea of their value before you list.
If using a bricks and mortar auction house expect to pay about 25% in fees and commission on a sale.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. It might be worth looking in your local area for a shop that deals with that sort of thing.
I know in Leeds there is a shop that buys & sells collectible items such as coins, medals, stamps, etc.
If you could find a shop like that local to you, they could at least give you a valuation so you know roughly the value of the items you have, you may be surprised and have some valuable items.
It would be worth checking them out before you did sell them anyway.0 -
I would check Yell.com for auction houses or jewellers/traders that may buy. Our local free paper quite often has ads in from people offering to buy gold, jewellery, coins, medals, etc.
Just bear in mind that no one does anything for nothing - an auction house will charge you, a jeweller or trader will give you below market price.
eBay would be more hassle, but at least the market will decide the value.0 -
Thank to you all!
I am based in Bangor in North Wales and des not seem to be anyone dealing with old coins around here. I am happy to use the opportunity to visit a bigger city if anyone could point me in the right direction!
I also have abour 2/3 of them catalogued them already, so could be prompted to finish the job and then i could just send the file maybe to the valuers?
ideas welcome!

If you need someone to take a look over what you've got (just in case there's anything a bit tasty), I'd be happy to assist. I've been collecting for 25+ years, so have a reasonable knowledge.
PM me if you want.
MBEIf you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0
