actually they were doing this in December too; I agree a great deal as like you I bought the varifocals and got 2 pairs for the price of one.
I suspect they'll extend it.0 -
I need to get some glasses and was looking at glassesdirect.com but if you think this is a good offer I think I'll pop in later. How much do the lenses cost?0

If you are near Liverpool, try Millicans. they permanently run a free second pair offer, including sunglasses. Also have 25% off all frames in the branch I went to ( Allerton Rd) and that includes real designer names not tne rubbish that Specsavers choose to call "designer".
Hope this helps someone get a real bargain.0 -
Is the Specsavers offer available on any types of lenses? e.g. if I get a designer frame with v. thin lenses (costs about £400)....do I get another pair free?0

Hi
In total with designer frames (so you could save about £50 if you go for standard frames) one from top level varifocal lenses (there are 4 levels, from basic to very good plus one type which is much much more expensive - the "very good" ones I took to instantly due to the quality), the bill was £236.
As you'd expect from an MSE'er I negotiated a small discount and got the scratch and reflective coatings included too.
So, 2 pairs of very good quality glasses for about £120 each.
Now my guess is that someone will come on here and say I could have got them half that online...I do know you can get varificals online, but it is very hit and miss - I decided my eyesight was too important to have someone guess the key measurements needed for varifocal lenses.0 -

Hi, yes this is what is says on their site and it was what I was offered (to be clear, you pay for the first pair, frames and lenses and the second pair (WHICH IN MY CASE USES A DIFFERENT STYLE OF FRAME), you get for free.
I decided in the end to go for the second best lense and I am delighted with them - I tried varifocals a few years ago and binned them after a few days - couldn't get used to them.
With these I walked out of the shop and within 30 mins I was fine. Do you need the super-expensive ones? Mine are certainly not thick - but perhaps it is a prescription thing?0 -
...without sounding like a specsavers groupy, I found their service excellent.
As I was unclear as to which 2 frames I wanted, I got one pair prepared first off all (done in 3 days not the week they'd said they'd take), then waited about 3 weeks and then selected the second pair. In that time a number of different frame styles had been introduced, so the delay worked out well for me as I had a bigger choice.
Very impressed.0 -

I think you are right (an the same goes for astigmatism).
I'm not an expert on this but if your lense is not uniform (which will be the case for varifocals and astigmatism) then it's important that the glasses sit correctly relative to your eyes.
A local optician can not only fit them for you but can adjust them later on.
Everyone's face is different so putting in measurements on-line is not guaranteeed to give the optimum solution. Some people have one ear higher than the other for example.
Of course if you don't mind being a little cheeky then you can get glasses on line and ask to pay an optician to fit them.
I have found specsavers pretty co-operative at fitting glasses that weren't theres but some opticians may be less co-operaative.
Personally I agree that's it's not something to skimp on if you have a variable prescription.
If you prescription is constant across the lens then it probably doesn't matter if the fit is not perfect.0 -
I have chosen my first pair (violet and a bit Dame Edna!) and am waiting to see how i get on with them before ordering my second. They were very good - I went in on friday and said I wanted to wait till sunday for the 2 for 1 but they let me order there and then. Desperate for the sale I guess.....Ellie
