Change of Name

Options
Can you not change names of tickets no more?

I bought 2 flights to Lisbon on the 21st Feb with TAP Portugal online in December to watch the Liverpool Champions League game with the missus. But she cannot make it now and I my mate wants to go.

My impression was that seeing as no tickets have been produced and I have an 'E-Ticket', then sorely a change of name was obtainable without a charge.

When I rang TAP Portugal, they said that I cannot change the name and that I would have to cancel my ticket and my mate would have to buy again to whatever price it is.

Is this the usual practice for all airlines?

Did you buy the ticket from an agent or TAP direct.

If from TAP direct you could try and create a log in at http://www.flytap.com/UK/en and then see if it can recognise your booking and allow changes.

If from an agent contact the agent and see what they can do.

BTW https://www.flymonarch.com go to Lisbon it might be cheaper for your mate to buy a new ticket from them.

Did you take out travel insurance ?
Why can't the missus go? Illness ? Bereavement ?

Just the insurance would pay out wouldn't it? In the right circumstances?

They you would just use the money to buy another ticket .....

I bought the tickets direct from their website.

The missus ain't feeling too well and said that she won't be able to take the flight in her current condition so she'll be doing it via travel insurance.

I just thought that something like this would be simple case of changing a name on a computer when no physical ticket has been issued would be a free and simple to do.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

It might be worth checking the excess on the insurance policy before making a claim, you'd also need to get a medical certificate from the GP.

They might change the name for a fee. No frills airlines such as easyJet, let you do that.

I'd try and log on to their website and see if you can do it online, although it says here http://www.flytap.com/UK/en/FlyWithUs/Reservations/Payment/268 that most tickets are not changeable, perhaps a quick look at the terms and conditions for your ticket might clarify this.

The person I spoke to was the guy that does refunds. He's on the same flight out and going to the game too!!! He advised that I get the travel insurance to get full refund from the missus flight and my mate buys a new ticket which would be £40 more.

I'll just put this down to experience.
