Driver IRQL error

Please help in layman terms

I am trying to copy VHS tapes to my hard drive to then put on DVD.
I have installed everything I was told I needed but when I start to capture the video a blue screen comes up with the words ' Driver IRQL not less or equal'

    Welcome to the MSE forum.
If you describe what hardware/software and operating system you are using then forum members may be able to help you or re-direct you to a forum where these matters are a common topic of discussion and hopefully have known solutions.
The IRQL error is so common that all the relevant information including motherboard type, versions of drivers etc may be required at a later date to assist in solving the problem.

    Hi Joe Bloggs

I am running Windows XP Pro.

I bought a Belkin Hi Speed USB 2.0 DVD Creator with Ulead Video Studio.

I also have Fly TV Platinum with Philips Silicon TV Tuner Card.

I uninstalled the software that came with the Fly TV as Ulead seemed a lot easier to work with.

    Any help would be appreciated

IRQL errors - usually dodgy drivers or IRQ conflicts (sharing).

If using USB capture device, try updating your USB drivers (if non-Intel chipset) and update the Capture box drivers.

Try putting the box into a different USB port.

    If using the PCI card.

Try updating the drivers. If that doesn't work try moving it to a different slot.

https://www.vcdhelp.com should help you identify the capture chip on the card. Sometimes the manufacturers generic drivers work better and are more up to date.

I have no idea what the Belkin USB2 to DVD thing is doing for you based upon the documentation found here.
However the device does nothing more than duplicate a video input, as found on a TV card or a VIVO graphics card, and send it into a USB2 socket . See a review http://www.laaudiofile.com/usbdvd.htm. (This link does not work for me direct. So you have to copy and paste it into a browser.)
The Belkin 'DVD' device may be very useful to computer owners who do not have video in or firewire but have USB2 and need to capture analog video.

So you have two devices that can provide a digitised video signal. My guess is that they are both confused as to whose turn it is.

I have uninstalled the Belkin & no longer get the blue screen up.
I have now bought a scart lead which has an S video lead out, this I have connected to the capture card.
I now have movie & colour in Movie Maker but no sound.
I have put a red & a black wire into the video scart, these merge into one that goes into my sound card. I've tried every hole but no luck.
My Grandson is upset that I can't put his Robot Wars on DVD for him.

You've been very helpful, I appreciate it but still need more

The line-input is probably muted in the sound / volume control panel for playback.

Also try selecting the line-input as the recording source.

(Volume / Sound control panel is in the SysTray (next to the clock)).

If the sound card ports are coloured then the line-in is usually blue. Microphone is pink and front speakers are green.

https://www.vcdhelp.com is a great source of video recording information and tips.

Thanks so much, I am going to look at that web site later but it's nice to know that someone on Martin's site will be able to help if I get bogged down with computer jargon.

    PS Grandson say's thank you
