I don't have any money.. well, very little.. I can go up to about 60 quid.... as long as it runs Word, has a usb port, and can cope with my memory stick, I don't really care what else it does..... although a floppy drive / cd writer would be a worthwhile bonus.... anyone know where I can get such a beast.... most of thsoe on ebay tend to be labelled sapres or repairs, and to be honest, I wouldn't know how to check the thing out.. cheers...

Not a chance. Even rubbish old pentium 2 stuff that barely manages Windows 98 does more than £60.Conor

Find an old computer shop.. or the loot. You're going to be lucky to find a laptop with USB for £60 though0

Just wanted to say Good Luck. Maybe if you put an ad in the local free paper or the newsagent something might turn up. People do buy things like laptops and then don't know what to do with them.0 -
Have you thought about a desktop? You ought to get more for your money and people often are chucking out CRT monitors.
If you don't have MS Word,Open Office is about the same as MS Office and can be downloaded free.
I gave 2 computers away free last year on Freecycle, both with CRT monitors. They had CD writers and although they had Windose 98 they probably would take your stick.
Give Freecycle a go (if you can get on a computer!) There are probably loads of people got new PCs from Santa and want rid of the old ones0 -
Round were i live, you do get them advertised in the local every now and then. Anything from £50 to £100.
They do exist, but you have to keep your eyes open for them.0 -
I totally agree, I think £60 for a laptop is unrealistic.
Get a desktop from freecycle, then spend the money on RAM (although in personal experiences, an upgrade in RAM with a 300-450mhz processor, which is probably what you'll get, makes little difference)
Or you could buy a desktop off eBay-

got two desktops... problem is I can't carry them round with me.. i do a lot of writing, and drive a lorry.... which means that i end up writing stuff on paper, then having to copy it all out again when i get home... thats why I want a laptop.... and as for the 60 quid being unrealistic.. well, the desktop with the pentium 3 and MS ofice/XP etc cost a tenner including a printer, monitor etc... but thanks to everyone so far... may have found one for 50.... but nothing definite yet....0
