Tesco Credit/Clubcard?????

Hi,

Is there anything stopping me from buying something expensive on my Tesco Credit Card/Club card and then return the goods but keeping the points? To exaggerate my point, say I buy a £10,000 car on my credit card. The car comes with a no quibble money back guarantee. I then return the car, get the money refunded and walk away with 10,000 clubcard points worth £100 or almost enough Airmiles (£100/£2.50 x 60 Airmiles= 2400 Airmiles) for a return trip to anywhere in zone 3 of the air milescheme.

I cant find a reason why I or anyone couldnt do this.

Does anyone know the most expensive thing you can buy on a card and return??? :huh:

I'm not speaking from experience of the clubcard credit card, however as a Tesco manager instore, we wouldn't normally remove the clubcard points if someone had something refunded, however if we suspected that someone was abusing the system then we would remove the points. I think that if you were to do what you are suggesting then the points would be removed too. Tesco have many many systems designed to detect fraud from clubcard.

Your points would be taken back. I ordered something from Tesco Direct and sent it back and the points were taken off me.

tesco finance operate the points system seperately from the normal shopping points, in fact, when vouchers etc are sent out you get 2 lots, one from the tesco normal system and 1 lot from Tesco Finance calculated on your spend level on the credit card. So the refund will have gone back to tesco finance for your card and at that point they will have adjusted your Tesco Finance points.

Seems a bit drastic to me for the sake of getting £100 !!

The Clubcard credit card awards points on your net purchases (i.e. the value of your purchases minus any refunds). I am not sure what would happen if your net purchases were negative but I expect it would cause a negative Clubcard balance.

For example, if you made purchases on you Clubcard credit card in one month of £100 you would get 25 Clubcard points. If the next month you made purchases of £200 but got the orignal £100 refunded you would only get another 25 Clubcard points (for the £100 net purchases).

When you take the item back for a refund, the refund will usually be made to the credit card used to make the purchase. This will in turn cancel out any points you got as a result of the purchase.

If you get refunded any other way (cash, cheque, vouchers, etc.) then you will get to keep the points on your tesco card. Not sure you would be able to wangle this with a £10000 car though!
