I only have a rad under a window in the bathroom, the rest are on walls well away from windows
kids bedroom curtains stay shut in winter
having 9 foot ceilings and cellars under the front rooms means it is CCCcold anyway :rotfl:Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
I have done reading too!

Exactly if they are full length you tuck them behind the rads, it helps the room heat so much than if you left them over the front of the rads!
First time I did it at mine pulled em back next day they were covered in dust!
Well done mumoftwins you got the right idea!If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0 -

I misread your message, I thought u were saying law of physics stipulates you have to leave your curtain over your radiator. Apologies mate! You can't keep a good man down...0 -

How do you tuck floor length curtains behind a radiator? Surely the hanging brackets make that impossible?0

its a bit fiddly jennifer but it is possible. It depends how thick they are too but u sort of pull them on whilst putting them down the back.If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0

This year I bought some thermal curtain linings for several of my windows and patio/front door they hang behind the original curtains on the same hooks and I have too admit its made a big difference to the heat retention in the rooms.
I also have a problem with full length curtains in the living room and older single panel rad but I do roll up the curtain and perch it on the window sill ( my wife hates it though) bedroom newer double panel rad tucked behind.
If anyone is interested I bought the linings from local highstreet shop called Boyes cost me £15 - £19 for normal window and £25 for full length 6' patio.Look after the pennies and the pounds will spend themselves0 -
We only have curtains in the stair. Every other room has shutters. Nice shutters, not newsagent style0

They also say that if you close your blind and curtains just as it gets dark this helps save heat too.. as colder when dark so doing straight away heats house up quicker..i need to get some decent curtains fitted i only have wooden blinds on all my windows at the moment..I am now debt free :j:jsince January 2009
but really need to learn how to save and budget to get some savings behind me :eek:0 -
over rad shelves are a good idea as the heat is thrown into the room. I have a hm shelf on a simple, stand as the rad and my desk are below a window. My desk has a cutout for the rad and the shelf simply stands on the desk. I have short curtains and the shelf stops a lot of the heat from going behind the curtain0
