Try Norfolkline ferries from dover to Dunkirk return can be from £30 for a car with up to 5 passengers. You do have to go at pretty unsociable times though but we use it all the time. They do multi-trip offers as well which are totally transferable so if you get together with a few others you can plan a few trips and make bigger savings. The link is www.norfolkline.com

Last few years I booked and they were very flexible on dates. ie: if you just turned up and they had space you travelled.
I think that has chanaged now tho, its a nominal fee.
But that feature sold it for me.
I used to book 4days before sailing in the summer months and it was circa 60quid rtn for car plus me.0 -
