Smelly dressing gown .....

Comments

  • I too get attached to my dressing gowns. Trouble is, I've been given one about every-other Christmas, so I've got about three old (but still nice) ones sitting in the airing cupboard. I don't want to hijack the thread or go too off-topic, but does anyone know of any good uses for old dressing gowns? Mine are the fleecy soft type and I wondered if I could make cosy bedsocks/slipper type things out of them (but I can't sew!)...

You could donate them to your local women's aid shelter - it would be nice to think of them being used to keep distressed people comfortable...

I saw a lovely idea using up old fleece. You just cut it up into squares and make a kind of patchwork throw using the squares to make up a pattern, a bit like a patchwork quilt. You could make it into a blanket, made up of old snuggly fleecy things that used to keep you snuggly, but not up to the job anymore. That way you could throw it over the back of the settee and use it to snuggle under when it gets chilly.

In America I've heard they keep their childrens favourite clothes and make them a memory quilt for when they leave home. I like that idea!
:hello:  please play nicely children !

Most musty/old smelling problems are caused by not washing hot enough. Always stick your bedlinen, towels, bath robes in a 60 c wash and they IME don't develop this problem. To revive something already smelling musty I would recommend a 90 c wash with a splash of bleach and bio powder. Rinse the bleach into the wash through the soap drawer about half way through the wash as bleach will kill the bio action of the powder if you add it at the start. That way you get the full benefit of the bio action, then the bleach, then the heat to fully clean and disinfect. HTH

Super idea, thanks babyblooz! I have just made an old tartan flannel dressing gown into a pair of pyjama bottoms, but for the thicker ones a blanket would be just right - and I could also add some squares of favourite beach and bath towels which are getting a little frayed at the edges....
