Could any one help.
I have seen a job I want to apply for on the Jobcentre website and I have to fill in one of their forms. I have tried downloading it from their website but it just shows as lots of boxes and symbuls (SP). I have windows vista with works not word but it keeps opening in wod pad.
Does anyone know how I can decode this.
Many thanks

Right click on the link and select 'Save As'. Go to where you have saved the file, right click on it and report back what file extension the file has - that's the bit after the dot in the filename. Then we might be able to tell what program you need to read the file.Charlie0

Do you know what type of file it is?
The two most likely are Word Document (.doc) or Portable Document Format (.pdf).
If it's a pdf, you'll need to download and install Adobe Reader, if you've not got it already. It's free, and worth having installed anyway.
Your best bet with Word files, if you don't want to shell out for MS Office, is OpenOffice. Again, it's free and almost certainly worth having even if it doesn't solve your problem.
EDIT: Follow f1charlie's advice first.0 -
Thanks
It is showing as .doc
I have tried the option for saving rather than opening when it downloads but both just show as gobbledegook.February 2013 NSD - 40 -
grab open office,
works probably doesn't understand the version of the file it is.. once you've downloaded and installed openoffice, you'll be able to open this file no problems
