So their "secure messaging facility" automatically deletes messages after the first read. Great!

I've now closed my FD account (after pocketing the leaving present) but I seem to remember FD secure messages are automatically deleted after you've read them. Anyone else confirm?

    Hi all,

Back in June08 the first direct £100 for joining and another £100 for leaving was in the weekly e-mail. I joined, paid in my £1500 each month, and now I've asked to leave but they are refusing to pay me the second £100 because I didn't complete a bank account transfer form and move my standing orders etc. This is a condition of the offer at the moment, but I read the T&C back then but I'm sure it wasn't there back in June.

Anyone else any experience of this? Anyone got the T&C or even an offer pamphlet from last June?

    Thanks
    Ant

Thats what the T&C said when I took out a FD account in oct....you had to use their system of changing over SO/DD to get the 100 quid when you CLOSED the account.....

But I have to say they are the best bank I've been with by far....can't fault them...as of yet

It might even tell you this online...I can't remember if I read it or realised it.

It looks like you're going to be lucky to bag the £100 leaving present here to be honest.

Firstly, you didn't mandate your income (as was required by the offer T&C's).

Secondly, you haven't done yourself any favours (bearing in mind the above) by asking to close the account (virtually) the moment your 6th deposit landed.

Best option to raise an official complaint maybe?

That isn't a T&C and it never has been. The requirement is to pay in £1500 per month, not to set up a salary mandate. This was their first excuse for not paying out, but then they decided it wasn't a requirement.

    That's good will, not a T&C. The T&C is 6 monthly payments.

I agree. It's not worth too much of my time really. It just annoys me that they've made up one excuse for not paying, and then accepted that it's not a requirement, and now they've put another in the way which wasn't in the terms back in June.

Anyhow, unless anyone's got a paper copy of the original offer then my mission here is done. I'll let you all know the outcome.

    Thanks for all the help.

If June's T&C's were the same as mine back in January, the requirement was to pay in your salary/income of at least £1,500 per month. To me, that says (for anyone employed and salaried) you must mandate your salary by BACS direct credit...not simply deposit £1,500 each month.

I agree. That's why I said "bearing in mind the above", ie mandating your salary. Had you done that, I don't think there would have been a problem. There wasn't with my 'leaving present'.

Did you see my suggestion in post #7?

Missed post 7 - I'll do that now.

Not everyone is paid by a BACS transfer from their employer, so that's why it's salary/income with the forward slash meaning "or". They've conceeded that so it's not an issue any more.
  • Hi Ant, I too have been refused my £100 for leaving. The excuse was I hadn't had £1500 in for 6 months (which I think is wrong) and that my excuse was not good enough, I told them they were no better than A&L. Looks like,if it looks too good too be true it probably is? Would be interested to know of ANY one who has received the leaving bonus.

Well my good news is that I have now been granted my £100 leaving bonus. HURRAH! I did a cut and paste of the archived terms and conditions from the link earlier in this thread into a secure message and asked them to confirm that the T&C have been changed since I signed up. Yesterday they phoned me and confirmed that indeed they have changed. They also confirmed that no salary mandate from my employer was necessary, but they did expect one, and nor was there any requirement to do a full account transfer from another provider.

What they have told you is total rubbish. Nowhere does it say £1500 balance is required, only £1500 per month paid in.

Based on my experience, don't give up. The man who phoned me yesterday apologised about the lack of knowledge of the other staff I'd dealt with. He says all staff are tested on the current state of the T&C but most are unaware of what they were 6 months ago. Persist until you get to speak to someone who knows.

    Good luck
    Ant

PS - My account was closed about 30 minutes after the phone call - I know this as my online access was cancelled. I'm expecting a cheque in the post in the next few days. I'll confirm when it arrives.
