You will bleed the most the first time you stand up as everything has been building up while you are in bed lying down and gravity will bring it all out. Sorry, for the TMI but no one told me this and there was claret everywhere. I thought I was hemerraging. :o:o Once that is all cleared out the bleeding isn't too bad. I used an always ultra nighttime pad with two maternity pads (overlapped to make a long pad with a thick bit in the middle) over the top in the beginning (after the scare) but didn't really need this much padding after the first day.

I was in hospital for four days but they were happy for people to go after 3 days. A 5th time mum on my ward was let out after 2 days after she said she would do her stomach injection herself. Can't remember what the injection is for but you get one a day for the first three days. Helps everything to contract I think?

Don't be afraid to ask for more drugs. They wouldn't let me have any paracetamol during the first 24 hours after the surgery but were quite happy for me to have a dose of morphine. :D

OH came and sat with the baby every morning in the hospital while I had a shower. I could managed the shower by myself, thankfully, just took twice as long as ususal.

Remember to take pictures. One of my OH's favourite pictures is of him dressed in surgical scrubs.

    Good luck.

oh i forgot about the injection - you get it for 5 days after section and once the day before (i did anyway) and I seem to remember it was to help prevent clots (?). So if you get out of hospital on day 3 a mid wife will come out and give it to you. It was actually quite stingy.

And i second the advice above re the first time you stand up, you will feel a lot of blood coming away, but after this its not so bad.

    .

I had no injections after the section either - and the midwife only came every two or three days anyway...? I'm starting to feel quite ignored now...:rotfl:

when did you have your section? the more i think about it, it was definitely to prevent clotting. I even remember staying in a gynae ward during my pregnancy and was with 4 women wou'd had hysterectomys and they all had to have the injection for 5 days too.

    Hi becks and all
Just had my midwife visit and baby is still breech so am booked in for a fortnight for a scan and turn if still breech. Hoping he turns before then but would rather prepare myself for a c section. I read somewhere that they give an epidural for the turning as its so painful? Is this a load of wodswallop?

+1 for the big knickers. Whatever size you are pre-pregnancy I would say buy 3- 4 sizes bigger for just after the birth (so if you are a size 12 I would buy a size 18-20) as you really don't want anything tight near your scar. I loved my jumbo knicks.

My first c section was an emergency and because of that was not great but my second was planned and an absolutely amazing experience. Make sure if you wear nail varnish that it is off and I also had to take my jewellery off, so maybe leave any rings/valuables at home and although it was a while since I had mine, I would make sure that your area near to where they will make the incision is ummm .... hair free. I assume they still require that.

I was out within 48 hours, you will have had a major operation and your body will be in a little shock even if you are buzzing, so make sure you sleep and rest. Your partner will probably enjoy having the new baby to himself for an hour or 2 while you have a good sleep.

I never got any hospital knickers or had injections either (4 years ago)

Thanks everyone for the advice-I am now the proud owner of some rather luridly patterned Asda big knickers. It's great getting all the info for people because I'm definitly a forewarned is forearmed person and like to do my research beforehand! Roxie I didn't had an epidural for the turning attempt. It really wasnt very traumatic so don't panic about it. Basically they monitored the baby for half an hour, then scanned me to check it was still breach, then I was injected into my womb with a relaxant-doesn't really hurt-just like a normal injection-it makes your pulse race a bit so dont feel alarmed if you suddenly feel a bit hyper! Then the consultant came in and told me that she never forced the baby to turn and that the babies actually enjoyed an assisted somersault and that there was a 50% success rate and a 1 in 200 chance of having to have an emergency caesarean although she had never had to do one. You just have to relax and she is scanning you whilst trying to get a hold of the baby's bum and trying to gently manouvre it round. My baby's bottom was well down in my pelvis so she couldn't get a good grip so couldn't manage to move it. I wasn't traumatised at alland they monitored the baby for half an hour afterwards to check all ok and then I drove to work!
