Today's Times reports that Saver tickets are to be phased out on most routes. In future we will have to choose between affordable tickets on specific trains (great under some circumstances, totally unsuitable when any flexibility is needed) or very highly-priced flexible tickets.
Someone please tell me this is not true. Or, how can we persuade the powers that be to change their minds on this?

As I understand it, savers will have price restrictions removed. Some operators may choose no longer to offer them, but train operators don't wish to run empty trains, so talk of huge increases is I suspect scaremongering.
Basically, long distance train operators have to compete with airlines and want a similar price structure - basically the longer you can book ahead the cheaper it will be.0 -
When I read about this yesterday, there is a commision or consultation process underway to decide this. It hasn't as yet all gone through.
