Hi

I took my car (2002 Megane Convertible) in for major service into nationwide autocentres in cardiff and was told that there was fluid in the rear brake drums and that both pads and discs were below legal limit. I hvae since taken the car to an independent mechanic who has measured these and they are well above the legal limits, they also didnt change the brake fluid in the car which was paid for. Does anyone have any idea where i go next with this as i am not happy, it was my partner that they phoned i think on the assumption that she was a woman and that she would just say yes to the work. The service was nearly £200 and they wanted £360 on top for the brakes. I really want to complain and get some sort of compensation from this.

help

Trophies are like Buses, you wait 26 years.
Then 3 come along at once!!!!

  • Trading standards seems your first stop. If you have a receipt showing a charge for brake fluid, and advice in writing from yr independent person saying its NOT new bf, I think you have a case for small claims court - to reclaim the cost of the service, maybe? - TS may be able to advise on this.
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).

they advised on the slip that it needed to be changed if due, but in the service it says that its done in the service

Many services suggest that the fluid is changed at a particular service, normally at 2 year intervals . However, the garage will only normally do it if you authorise it. So, althogh it is shown as a service item it is often discretionary to the customer.

Check carefully what your service schedule actually says for this service and what you asked the garage to do. A fluid change would normally be charged at about £50.

I agree that most of these service centres are rip off merchants. Out of the same school as Kwik Fit (you cannot get dearer than a Kwik Fit fitter!!! - is that the right slogan? Sounds right to me.)

Probably should have gone to the independent mechanic in the first place?

Why people use these places !! ??

    See this thread:

The irony is that in that thread I had to make it clear I wasn't pointing the finger at Nationwide Autocare ! :rotfl:

I suggest trading standards it's worth a phone call. Also their head office.
