Moving Electricity Meters

Hi,
A friend told me that the electricity will move my meters for free if it less than 5 metres from its orginal position. Is this true?
We want to move our meter as we live in an old house and the position that it is in is unsightly, and the cables and meter are spread over a wide area. We are hoping if this is true they will compact the meters and cables into a smaller area.
I am currently with Britsh Gas for electricity.
