Hot water tap makes a noise!!!

Options
Just before christmas, i changed the taps in my kitchen, then about a week ago, whenever i have the hot tap running, once the water is coming out hot, it is making a loud, high pitched squeeling noise. The cold water side is fine. I was wondering what this is, and what i can do to stop it.

Mine too. Come on plumbers, save us. And don't start with the "It's gonna cost you..." malarkey. Could we just say thanks instead?
And if, you know, your history...

Ours didnt squark and wail till the other day. The water was not as hot as it should and we had BG come out. They said it was the pressure and fixed it very quickly but now it sounds like the effing geisha is wailing her memoirs as loud as possible. You need a bath to relax after that. Oh, and the water runs pretty slowly now.

Also, if there is air in the pipes or whatever the problem may be...is there a solution?

All he has done is turned a valve down, to reduce the flow, and not the pressure.
What you need to do is, take the tap head off, then remove the body, dissmantle it and get some fine emery paper and clean the parts, and then get some silcone grease, and smear it on the parts(spindle/jumper) and it should work fine then.
This problem occurs alot with cheap imported taps, and high pressure sysytems, and it will tend to re-occurr, you might need to fit a PRV.
  • I agree with plumb1, partly closing an isolating valve on a pressurised system to reduce flow-rate will actually increase the noise it makes.

The only budget taps I tend to fit now are Bristan, I've had too many problems with so many of the others.
