I cooked some haddock two days ago in the microwave and the house still stinks!
I had a look on the mega cleaning thread but I cant find anything... has anyone got any ideas how to get rid of the smell. I dont mind it that much but OH is a veggie and hates it.
Thanks

I had the same problem last time I cooked fish.
I left a bowl of dry bicerabonate of soda in the kitchen and it got rid of it.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -
Hi there lushkat,
Bicarb is very good for absorbing smells.Try putting a small container with some in inside the microwave.Don't turn it on just leave it there, also put some out in other fishy areas.
I use it when one of my delightful children has thrown up on the carpet.I sprinkle it directly on the affected area, leave it for a few hours and hoover it up-works brilliantly.0 -

Look in the Cleaning section of the MEGA index. There's a section under "Air fresheners" there and also a separate section on cigarette smoke which may be of some help hereHi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. You could make a spray of vinegar and lemon juice as an air freshener, that might help, but when cooking fish, add a little lemon juice as that can help neutralise the smell as it cooks.

The match trick only works for, shall we say 'bathroom smells'-again I find this useful when my delightful children use our downstairs loo,(which is right by the front door),and leave the loo door open. Not the best way to greet guests. The match really does work for this0 -
Just a quick heads up
- Don't ever cook what I just fried, I've chucked the fat out (deep fat fryer full) boiled the deep fat pan, the 12" expelaire is in top gear the windows are all open and I'm typing this in my car whilst breathing through a wet towel. The end result was delicious but never again inside a house:mad:
