Audi A6 Ownership

Up until recently I had an A6 estate. I loved the car in almost every respect, apart that is, from the crappy 2.5Tdi engine.

It might just have been my car and I knew to expect some additional noise but it was deafening until totally warmed up. In fact I suspect it may have been mistreated at some stage in its life and it did have 5 previous owners (2001 car).

ANYWAY, I’d really like to get another one but with a petrol engine, of which there are quite a few. So has anyone got/had one and got any experiences to share, good or bad? I know Audis used to have coil pack issues in the past.

I’m looking at the older £3-5k section of the market.

Cheers

They beefed the 2.5 to 155bhp from 2001 (face life) and it was much better then the lower powered one.

The 1.8 Turbo petrol is nice. But the 2.4 petrol is wonderfully smooth and very tourquey!!

Can get modest mileage 02/03 stuff for about 4000.

Tho if you can find a nice 3.0 2.7T Quattro then get it!
  • Thanks for the input. That coupled with an absence of people telling me not to do it was all I needed.

Incidentally, the last one I had was the 180BHP TDI. Rough as a very rough thing. It MUST have been my example rather than the model.

The 2.7 twin turbo engine is a real gem, mine’s coming up to 195k and still pulls like a train and uses no oil between changes

I love how much torque the 2.7T gets! More fun to drive than the standard 3.0. Get both them turbos opened up and away you go!
