Car Insurance Claim Norwich Union

My car was packed outside my house in November 2008 and was hit by a stolen car. Norwich Union arranged to collect my car from my house that week. Two weeks later i recieve a telephone call stating that i need to send in my log book (registeration certficate) and purchase receipt, i could not find any of those documents. Norwich Union were no help there, i told them i couldnt find the documents the call centre operative just said we need them and thats it. I ended up ordeing a registeration certificate which only came 3 days ago because the DVLA 'forgot' to send it out. Instead of sending those documents I asked Norwich Union if i could send the letter for Tax Disc renewal as this showed the owner of the car with my address, i was told that this was okay. I faxed this document to them at the begining of December and was told that it would take a maxium of 7 days for the validation department o validate the claim.
It is now January and when i telephoned Norwich Union today they said that the claim is still with the validation department and because of christmas there has been delays. Firstly i send the documents well before the christmas holidays, secondly i had no idea that departments in India! closed down completely for christmas. I know that indians do celebrate christmas but did not know they close of the whole period. I asked Norwich Union what is the delay in handling the claim they always fob me off. I do not have courtesy car cover (my fault i know) and am there fore relying on a renting cars. I just want my car back or norwich union to tell me what they are doing, either they are going to repair the car or write it off or not pay out at all. I also had to declare my car off road which is another added hassle.
The garage must be charging norwhich union quite a bit to have my car sitting in there!. Can Norwich Union take this long to deal with a claim?? the damage on the car was not that bad! My car insurance is up for renewal in April and i will not be renewing. If i find out the price of repair from the garage and can afford it, can it withdraw my claim and just pay for the repairs myself!?

Unfortunately, I suspect you will be charged for the storage and recovery if you withdraw the claim.
They will need the log book in order to process the total loss payment.0
