Have just received notice that my c heating and drains cover has gone up to £25 per month - had a call out you see, when previous BG engineer cracked a plate in the fire!!! - Luckily we have never even touched the fire for heating and rely on c heating the whole house as we have small babies....but surely this figure must be high? Id rather not have to worry about weasily small print operators and if it breaks i want it mended!!! but is it worth stopping with BGas for this amount?

cheers

Call the British Gas Home Care Team and ask for the cancellations department and tell them the reason you would like to cancel is due to the higher cost of the policy they may offer you a discount to keep the policy on.

Hi Sweety, let us know if that works as this year I am paying almost £240 for central heating cover only.

Any reason you want to cover your drains out of interest?

Old house, 2 small kids, and newer houses built near to us, so chances are any drain probs will be ours to deal with......no time or money to spare hence BG homecare 300
  • The Homecare package is expensive from BG.... I do work for BG, altho I like to think I'm not bias in anyway.
The thing I would say is that you will struggle to find a company that has you as fully covered as BG, your covered for unlimited call outs, parts and labour, no excess or hidden fees, so you do know that your subscription has you covered more or less whatever happens.

I think if you ring up and ask to cancel because of the price, they will just try and offer you the flexi package, which is a reduced rate, but you would pay a £50 call out charge if you ever needed them, which is maybe something worth considering.
    Sunny in Southampton.

If you didn't pay £300 per year insuring against something that will probably never happen, then you'd have money to spare.

I was offerred drains cover but I think you will find in the small print they don't pay for shared drains problems. Bit limited if part of an estate.

I cancelled my one year free CH cover ( came with new BG boiler installation ) when it needed renewal, as they wanted over £20 per month.

The boiler had a two year guarantee and therefore another year to run, so hardly any risk of cost to BG. I also cancelled because BG tried to talk me out of the annual service due under the freebie year saying I would get it upon renewal, even though in writing that I was entitled to it.

After a few weeks they rang and renewed it at about half price, like for like cover, on the basis of being a long term customer, but again no mention of the 2 year guarantee.

Quite happy with the engineering side of it, but I feel they are a bit sneaky.
