Estimate on cost of plastering ceiling?

Hi, I was wondering if there were any plasterers who could give me an idea of how much it would cost to get my bathroom and toilet celings plastered. The bathroom is about 4m2 and the toilet is about 2m2.
Thanks
Kate

I get a plasterer in frequently in my line of work. He just did a lounge ceiling approx 14m2, took 4 hrs ahd he charged £150. He also did a full wc for me in November, 4 walls & ceiling approx 16m2 and charged £180 took just under a day (6 hrs).

These are prices for Central Scotland.

Nothing is easy........'til you find out how!
  • My brother is saying he would charge £150-£160 for the day - but dependent on the ceiling being 'good to go' and not needing any prepping.

    Hi
I've just bought a 1930's house. It had polystyrene tiles in every room - being me i ripped them all out... now wondering what to do.

4 of the 5 rooms had thin wooden boards under the tiles not sure what the last one is (maybe plaster) - what should i do - do I put in plasterboard or can I have the ceilings plastered over the wood? -

If I need plasterboard how do i do it and should I plaster over the top or am I OK to paint it?

Any recommendations for plasterers, or people who can do ceilings pretty quick in North Kent and an idea for how much it'll cost would be much appreciated....?
    Ceiling sizes - rm 1: 9.72m2, rm 2: 12.23m2, rm 3: 12.69m2 rm 4: 7.96m2
rm 5: (bathroom and the only one with adhesive blobs) 2.6m2

I've got an electrician going in this week to rewire the whole place - should this happen after the ceilings are finished? I have to move out of where I'm living in a couple of weeks and would like this work done before I move in.....

Also do you know anyone who can hack off render on the outside (the rendering has been done across the dampproof course) - and anyone who can put a wee slope on a flat roof to stop water pooling....

    Thanks

Don't suppose you work in the Kent area do you?:o

I'm from the north east, it sounds like your ceilings need overboarding and will then need skimming (you can't plaster on wood as it will crack all over the place) if your not bad at DIY I would do the overboarding yourself and then get a plasterer in as this will bring the price right down, get the sparky in first to do his bits. Best way to do the boards is firstly you need to locate all the joists and don't assume they will be the same distance apart, dig away at the ceiling until you can see the ends of all the joists on both ends of the ceiling (don't take away much just enough to see the joist) now tap a small nail in the centre of each joist, you now need to get a chalk line and attach it to one nail, pull it tight and line it up with the corresponding nail at the other end of the same joist and snap the line accross the ceiling, do this on every joist. You will now have a chalk line showing the exact position of the joists running accross your ceiling, get someone to help with the boards and screw into the joists (don't use nails) be as precise as you can when measuring up and keep the gaps tight, don't attempt it on your own get some help, once you have done one ceiling the next one will be much easier, put the boards up in the same pattern as bricks on a wall, this prevents having long joints which will crack the plaster, final aspect is to scrim tape all the joints, hope this helps, any problems or further questions just send us an e-mail

wow Johnathon - what great advice - thank you.... now that you've told me how I might just give the plasterboarding a go - think I'll start in the 2nd bedroom - won't be using that much so won't see any ahem mistakes.

I'm sure I'll be in touch.

Jockster, I am in need of a recommended plasterer in central Scotland (Paisley). If you could PM me the contact details that would be appreciated.

    Thanks.
