Capital one - dont understand this figure

First of all i have a credit limit of £100. somehow the bill has gone to £115 - i dont see how i can spend past my limit. i didnt know how much credit i had left on the card a couple months ago and the card was declinded. i looked at my statement online and i noticed that there was a £12 over limit fee. well i dont understand how that fee has been applied if i cant go over my limit, and secondly i cant see where the other £3 was spent on.

any one have any ideas on that?

My bill was set to come out on 7/01/09.
I paid my £115 bill on the 3rd Jan 09. so i had a fresh card. everything paid off, i didnt owe anything.

then on the 4th i get a charge for £49.98. does any one know what this is from?! i havnt spent anything!

i noticed on the statement that the "-£115" was under 'Credits' and had a minus symbol infront of it which was highlighted in red.The £49.98 also had a minus symbol before it, was in red and also listed under credits.

my account summary now reads:

Credit Limit £100.00 Current Balance -£49.98 Available Credit £100.00 Cash Available £100.00 Amount Overlimit £0.00

any one can help me with this? where did that 49.98 come from? if it is a charge what would of it been from? if its a credit what would it of been from?

any help is appriciated.

thanks

    It's a credit.
Any chance this is your annual cashback?

theres no cash back on the card.

but even if it was then id have a 'available limit' of 149.98 wouldnt i?
  • Hi,

Ring them up and go throught the transactions, and you CAN go over the credit limit with them as I found out.

Tesco DVD rental went through despite my not having the money and they said some company's request for payment will o through irrelevant of balance.

THey waived my fee on this occassion as I was unaware of this,

    Just give them a call.

You can spend over your limit especially if some transactions are not immediately autorised, it is up to you to control that. It looks like the £49.98 is a credit to the account, have you had a refund of any transaction ? Can you reconcile all your transactions with the on-line statement.

i will be ringing them up on my dinner break.

the only thing i spend on my card is petrol at the same station every time and that is the place that declinded my card once i hit my limit. also a couple of odd things whilst im out on business but only £10 or so for a meal / drinks. so i doubt it'll be a refund.

and yes i have my last bill period printed out so i will be ringing and checking with them.

it just seemed abit wrong/confusing to me that they put those two figures in red with a minus figure before them and then list them under the credit column.

thanks for everyones comments. i think best thing to do is ring them and find out whats going on.... damn those 0845 numbers !!!
