Cloud 9 Cirrus or Tredaire Softwalk Underlay

Morning everyone,

I am just about to order and lay some underlay and i have been a total geek about what underlay to get! I have narrowed it down to 2 choices:

Cloud 9 Cirrus or Tredaire Softwalk

From my research i am 99% certain that they are basically the same apart from made from 2 different companies. I have read lots of comments on Cloud 9 but i heard a rumour that Tredaire is the best underlay you can buy. There is nothing in the price between the two so i was wondering if anyone had any views?

Thanks,

Underlay has been discussed a few times on here. Cloud 9 seems to be quite popular amongst the forum users. You could buy from Trade Priced whom have been recommended a few times and is apparently far cheaper than the cost at the big carpet retailers.

    Hope that helps

    Hi,

    CLOUD 9 CIRRUS & SOFTWALK

Both products are a 9mm PU (Polyurethane) sponge underlay, with a stitch-bonded paper topping. There are a few MINOR dull-sounding differences to consider:

-Cirrus has a 100kg density foam, softwalk a 105kg density. This basically means that the foams in Softwalk are packed slightly tighter together, creating a slightly firmer and resilient product, although anything of 90kg density+ is perfectly suitable for normal domestic wear!

-The crepe paper topping to Softwalk is thicker than Cloud 9. In my opinion, this creates unneeded rigidity.

-The bottom layer of Cirrus is lined with a white fleece. This makes it super-easy for the fitters to drag the underlay into place on the floor. Softwalk has a painted red underside, simply to hide the foam scrap inside.

Cloud 9 is easily the best seller, and would recommend buying over the web. In my opinion, the main reason some retailers recommend Softwalk over Cloud 9 is because it has the 'Tredaire' brand-name to it, which creates an easy sell because they have been a very well-known maker of rubber waffle underlay for years.

Although there are others on the internet selling these, www.carpet-underlay-shop.co.uk would be the cheapest, most reliable source for both products.

    Has anyone used floor-site.com?

    Thanks
  • This thread is an oldie, but still ranks high in search results.

I've just checked the manufacturer's sites for the tech specs on these and the newer Blue Heaven product. The most significant difference relates to compression where the Tredaire wins hand down.

I checked the 9mm underlays only.

I had a lovely Brintons carpet fitted recently, and we used Axfelt 65. Can thoroughly recommend both!

Brought it from Fab Flooring, who were the cheapest and provided excellent help and service.
