(Nice!) Smelling Clothes/Laundry Question

Lulubells wrote:Hi,
I found this too as I can only use fairy due to allergies in the family and fairy doesn't have much smell. ,
Isn't it funny what you get used to. I find Fairy incredibly scented. Because we also have sensitive skin in this household, I won't use scented powders, even Fairy. I hate the atificial smell anyway. I use Ecover which has a gentle lavender smell. Other than that, I use essential oils if I want a particular fragrance.
I never ever use fabric conditioner but have started to use vinegar. I find that apart from making the clothes 'squeaky' clean, they smell almost of nothing - just clean, IYKWIM, with just a hint of lavender form the Ecover..0 -
Hi - I'm not sure if this is of use as you said you wanted to get the smell to stay not that it didn't smell much at all, but I just remembered I was also overloading my washing machine each time and things just didn't smell of much - now I have reduced the load size it really seems to of helped.Currently on a life sort-out !! ...reducing bills, decluttering and getting into fitness - busy bee0

I asked a similar question some time ago (why doesn't my tumble dried washing smell nice). Since then, I've started using Lenor lavender and chammomile conditioner and my clothes now smell lovely - even after being in the cupboard for a while. Not much good for sensitive skin, but lovely on the nose!0

My favourite smell is starched sheets straight from the washing machine (Easy starch). I've got a ceiling airer and the utility room smells lovely, until the cats decided to use their litter tray which is underneath :rolleyes:New year, no debt! Debt free date - 02/01/07 :j :j :j0

But nothing beats the smell of laundry that has been drying outside.
my mum says if she was on Desert Island Discs, her luxury would be bottles of her favourite smells. They would include laundry fresh from the washing line and new mown grass.0 -
I've just ironed all the bed linen which i have dried outside for the first time this year and it smells fab. I can only describe the smell as outside clean. I've yet to find an artificial fragrance to match it (although i keep trying)Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0

Hi
I have recently (past 4 weeks) stopped using the TD and am using an airer or hanging outside to dry. I too love the smell of freshly washed clothes and find that by drying in these ways, makes the freshed wash smell last longer. The TD especially when drying bedding never lasted more than a couple of days, drying as above lasts the week.
By ironing the bedding after drying outside or on airer (like MATH) the smell is fab and again lasts the week. Bedding gets changed every friday.
ATM, Im using Persil Biological liquid and Lenor (Blue one).

have to agree ticklemouse. i use co-op non Bio as any other powder makes the kids skin itchy. there's hardly any smell, also ecover fabric conditioner. I have noticed when i sit next to my friend on the bus i can smell the powder/fab conditioner on her clothes really overpowering, same when the kids friends come round.0 -

Personally and as Nile has mentioned I don't want my clothes to smell of anything than clean clothes.
And as long as they don't smell of BO or anything that is fine by me. If your clothes smell then does that not clash with your perfume.
I try and dry as much as I can outside on the line.
