Cartridge world - refusing full refund

Hi,
My dad went and got me a refill of a Canon 41 colour cartridge, I emphasized that they MUST refill the original cartridge, which they did. Now the reson my dad went was because I had jsut had my appendix removed and struggled to walk. When Dad collected it, they said that it had a line down the pink colour on test (a strip missing) and he said to my dad "to be honest, that'll clear itself, if not he can have his money back". I used it 3 times and I wasn't particuarly impressed with the quality at all. But like I said above, i couldn't manage the walk to the shop. Now I have tried using it and it is completely unaccepted by the printer. I went into the store with it (with the test paper with the line missing) and the receipt. Now they are saying "yes its a dead cartridge" but you've accepted it as it is and didnt bring it back. I explained I wasn't physically able to bring it down to the shop as I live on the other side of town. he said "someone could have brough it in" and we can only offer you a 50% refund back as you have used half of it. I printed literally 3 documents and that was it. I explained that my Dad simply went by what the guy who served him said when he told him it would clear itself, yet they insisted it was accepted as it was. He said "I agree its dead and its not working, it hasn' worked for us on test, but you've used it. You can't expect a full refund on something you've used, see it from our point of view, its the same anywhere, you dont get half a use from something then expect your money back". He said its weight indicates you've used half. I then repeated myself and explained that "you've knowingly sold me something that wasnt right from the beginning anyway, and now its kaput. Your website emphasizes" He then said "you dont go for a meal eat half a meal then ask for your money back". To which i responded with "who pays upfront for a meal?"
Is there anything I can say to them, or do to take it further to get my money back? My Dad isn't knowledgable in computers etc and is very naive and simply went by what the guy said when told it would "clear itself" it never did and now it doesnt work. Who can I complain to? Or what should I do? I am not willing to accept a 50% refund. Even if the cartridge worked fine when I bought it, it is still faulty and I should rightfully get a 100% refund, the website says so, and its all over their windows.
Can anyone suggest the best course of action.
The sales guy wasn't so cocky when I took the cartridge and receipt back and said right OK I think I'll seek some advice on this.

Can you prove that your cartridge was working before hand? Go back with a "before" print out to show it was working before.
Are you saying that they've given you back a different refilled cartridge? Obviously you wouldn't have given them a broken cartridge to refil, as that would be pointless!
How much are we talking about here?
On the basis that they guy knew it didn't work when he gave it to you, then they should now refund you, as it didn't sort itself out as he promissed it would.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0
