If it was to do with the file sharing you'd still get connected, but file sharing wouldn't work. You'd still get an IP address and as long as it was set up correctly you'd still get a route to the internet via the router. In this case it looks like the wireless lan is not being picked up, or it is and the software is just not connecting it through to the wireless adaptor.0

Thanks for the suggestions, will keep me busy tonight and I'll report back.
I haven't even thought about the next step of file sharing etc, I assumed I needed to get the Computer connected to the wireless connection first?0 -
Yep, hence why I dont think that's your problem at this stage.0

Cheers for the ongoing support!0

Dismantled PC and placed next to Router , disabled Zone Alarm and Symantec and WPA. Success, the PC worked and talked to the router.
Set PC back up in dining room, approx 30 foot away, wireless signal strength "excellent" but it wouldn't connect! It is clearly seeing the network but still won't connect.

Have you tried doing a repair on the wireless connection, or changing channelsEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

I've done repair (Windows repair) but not tried channels, thanks I'll give that a go as well.0

Hi
I experienced a similar situation some time ago and fixed the issue with the Winsockfix utility. It's free and safe to use, worth a shot I would say (and fully reversible). It worked for me as a last resort after weeks of frustrating attempts. This tool is widely available, just Google it to find d/load sites.
Good Luck!0 -

How bizarre. All were on the PC that is working and all had internet connection at 2MB speed??? Just goes to show, don't rely on just one source, or can anyone explain.
I've switched to channel 3 and will try connecting the PC that doesn't connect at the moment and come back.0 -
Starting to dispair! Now have very good signal upstairs. Excellent signal downstairs (on the PC that won't connect).
WPA matches on both, yet the downstairs one will not connect???
I've tried disabling all firewalls and anti-virus, still no joy. Maybe I should just put it up for sale on Ebay and try a DLink instead!0
