Worcester 24CDi combi boiler...no ignition

Just happened today, the heating went cold so we checked the boiler. The red flashing light was slowly blinking, so reset using the front panel red button. This has happened before...
This failed to fix it.
The ignition spark just clicks away until the red flashing light returns.
There is a gas connection in the house as the hobs work.

I've checked 'other' forums *shame!*:o but cannot find an answer to this specific fault?
And the user manual doesn't mention a faulty ignition sequence?
Nor is there a 'help' guide on the Worcester/Bosch site...I'm sure there used to be?

I'm in your very helpful arms...or fingers, even. :D
And just before the kids go back!

Thanks, in advance - even for looking.
I try to help... ;)I'm not helping much, am I? (<==where's he gone?)

I'd wait for a proper reply... I know I should! :D

Cheers!

Good evening: Have you tried here?

    HTH

Ask to see CIPHE (Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering)
  • This could be anything but it sounds most likely to be your gas valve. To be sure your probably best getting the professionals in..

Cheers, Canucklehead...been there when looking for the fault-finding, but they didn't really help - except "call an engineer". :D
I'm sure there used to be a 'fault-finding' thingy...?

As we don't have any way to monitor if gas is getting through the valve, gasbag1602, unless you know of a 'trick'? ;) I'm at a loss.

    Will do annie...can't hurt.

Thanks to all of you for posting so quickly. :T

Sorry love sounds like you need to call the experts, i wouldnt like to give advice and you to hurt yourself or others. can you see a spark through the glass? If so you then need to be able to test for power and continuity at the gas valve, this will defo require someone in the know!:A

Thanks...wouldn't know 'how' to test for continuity, and he-who-will-obey hasn't got a 'meter' anyway, apparently? ;)

I wondered if you could 'hear' the gas going...? :o

No sorry you cant hear the gas going, if it is the gas valve you would need a corgi reg fitter anyway! Why not try a British gas fixed deal depending on where you live it would cost about £150-160. At least it would be fixed pronto then!

OK...so a 'man' came and pretty much said it would be a new gas valve without breaking a sweat.
    Cheers, gasbag1602!

    But here's a story...

In my investigations, from your thoughts, I found a bit of an issue with British Gas.
Part of the site sends you to the 'one-off' payment screen with a number ending 4019...I tried this first in desperation.
    They give you 3 options:
Approx. £30 pcm (Homecare 200?) for 12 mths, £190(?) to fix it - no ties, OR £127 for each call-out and a £2 pcm priority call-out contract.

Another part of their pants site sends you to a screen about the monthly Homecare thingy - the small print makes it hard to spot you need an OK system first. :o This number ended 6090.
They give you 2 options!? And only 2 that 'they' know of?
Again, pay about £30 pcm or £190 to fix it, too.
    Why is this?

PS I'm sure the monthly figures/costs were different from each call-centre but I neglected to write both sets down...I went for the cheapest.
