hi, i asked for a riser recliner chair and and adjustable bed from the community care grant, but they turned me down for the chair and bed saying saying that social services will provide them..they did give a grant though for a tumble dryer and dishwasher ..i wonder should i appeal for the chair and bed and if i do what are the chances i will be awarded them...people are saying that social services won,t provide a chair and bed...thanks

I'm not sure about the Community Care Grant, but quite often, these grants will not give you items that other departments are responsible for.
So if they have said Social Services, then it will probably be to them that you will need to apply.

Ask if the CCG will be a little more specific in their reasons for refusal, it will save you the hassle of appealing.

Don't waste any time though in contacting Social Services. You will need to be assessed by an Occupational Therapist, and there is normally a waiting list...so get n there,

In the Social Services dept I work for, as an OT, we can't provide height adjustable beds (only district nurses can provide this - its not the same for all Social Services though). You can get equipment that fits regular beds to help with getting in & out, or sitting up from lying. An OT would generally try these things first before recommending (and providing if they're able to!) a hospital or electric bed.
