Dreading this year

Hi again Jonny,
I was going to do that, but, i dont have any debt except my mortgage. i do have sky, which I could cut down on, but, I dont have any loans, or credit cards that I owe money on. ive joined the grocery challenge, so will be trying to cut back on grocery shopping.
with regards to my husbands job, we are very lucky in that him and his business partner are very ambitious, they wont go down without a fight. Their company dont owe anyone any money, so they have no debt.
Will things really get as bad as people say?
Jackie
You don't need to have any debt to do an SOA... that's my point. If you're really that worried you could look at areas to save money, thereby increasing your "safety margin" and therefore reducing your worries.... hopefully.
As for how bad it'll get, who knows? Yep, I reckon pretty bad, but as mitchaa says it'll hit different people in different sectors to varying degrees.0 -

Oh hell, I'm really doomed!!!
Eh who said anything about a loving relationship !!!!!!
I wouldnt say desired by other employers. I worked for them for 17 years, they are looking for someone they dont need to train. If I was desired by them as you say, they would have given me the terms i wanted.0 -
Hi,
Is anyone else dreading this year cos of the recession? I am, and I cant stop worrying about it at all.
I know there is nothing I can do about it.
Hubbie is self employed, work is very very quiet, we go back to work tomorrow, and TBH I dont think there is going to be that much to do. Im lucky in that we have savings which would last us for quite a while, but, I still worry about loosing my home. I do have a large mortgage, the value of my house means nothing to me because its my home, i dont plan to move, but, with the savings I have, I have I could technically reduce my mortgage down by almost half.
Whenever I read anything on this forum, on the internet, newspapers or watch the news, it just all seems to be about doom and gloom, there is no light at the end of the tunnel.
Im afraid im one of these pessemistic people, glass is always half empty and never half full. Im having trouble sleeping because Im worrying about it, and at the stroke of midnight into the new year, I just felt like crying because im dreading 2009 so much.
Am i being really silly worrying like this, and is anyone else like this?
Anyway, if youve got this far reading this thanks very much, just needed to vent cos my hubbie is fed up listening to me:o .

Hi Jackie i haven't read the previous replies to your op but would just like to add that I'm sure you'll be just fine because you seem dead nice0 -
My life hasnt changed in the slightlest since April of last year but im still negative about the future.
I work on the highstreet for a rather large Scotish bank propped up by the Governmentso job security is a concern but luckily unless we are taken over and there are significant branch closures I will probably be one of the last to go - if they cut down branch staff anymore I will be by myself! I have a fair chunk in savings and im currently living at home so I wouldnt really have anything to worry about if I lost my job tomorrow, it would just put my plans on hold for a while. This doesnt stop me reading all about the end of the world as we know it on HPC and thinking what if though.
I think I should just stop reading forums and enjoy watching the price of my ideal homes drop! The people who really should be worrying have their heads firmly planted in the sand and dont arent even aware of websites like this.0 -

If reading the newspapers leaves you feeling down - cancel them.
If watching the news fills you with dread - watch The Simpsons.
If reading mse forums scares you - read the DFW forum - that'll cheer you up.
Don't worry, be happy now.

I know that its a worrying time but I am now passed the stage of worrying over something that I have no control over. I was advised in feb 08 that our office would be relocating down south and being made redundant end sept - very bad time to be made redundant. Also in July hubbie was on a redundancy threat as he works for a housebuilder but he was kept on. I was very stressed about it all even though we have fairly dealt savings and could survive at least 9mths of all expenses apart from savings. I managed to find a new job which is semi secure in a school part-time but my wages are very low compared to my previous job but it is common practice at the moment, Hubbie still has a job and constantly makes statements about not being ina job soon - we will deal with this if/when the time comes, as life is too precious to worry about it, You will survive as you have savings so try to prepare as previous people say and put more away in savings etc if the bad/worse case senerio will happen. Im hoping it will not be too bad but time will tell.MFIT T2 Challenge - No 46

I recommend everyone reads How It Ends. Once you understand a possible worst-case scenario, you can plan accordingly.
BTW - Sainsburys have rice on 1/2 price, well-worth hoarding for when there's a riot or two.0 -
Thank you everyone for your replies. I know I should count my blessings and that there is always someone worse off than me.
i dont know why im like this, i really dont, and I know Im going to get totally ridiculed because ive got savings and im worrying about this, but, I cant help it. I really really cant.
Sometimes when I read this forum, you would think that the world is going to end. I read the post about stockpiling food, i see some people are going on about deflation etc, I think someone somewhere even mentioned about the country going bankrupt, and UK ends up like Zimbabwae or something like that.
Im sorry if ive offended anyone for posting because ive been honest about how worried I am about things. I didnt mean to offend anyone, I just wanted someone to talk to.0
