Travel Insurance - I'm confused!

Hi,
Myself and hubby have booked a trip to Australia for 7th October - 31st October 2009 and I have been advised by the travel agent to buy our insurance now just incase we need to cancel the trip.
I have tried to get quotes for an annual insurance starting 7th October 2009, but all of the sites say that the insurance must start within 90 days, does this mean I have to buy the insurance to start now for a year? I thought Annual insurance would be the cheaper option incase we go somewhere else as well!
Or if I did choose single travel insurance starting on 7th October 2009, would I still be convered if I had to cancel the holiday before??
Hope this all makes sense!
Thanks!

One important aspect of travel insurance is the cancellation cover. You'd be well-advised to buy the policy as soon as you've paid for the trip - then if you need to cancel due to illness, etc (not just changing your minds about going on the trip!) any time between now and departure you would be covered. Have a great time in Oz!
P.S. Don't forget if you're a British passport holder you need a visa.0
