5 year stain cover for leather sofa

I have just purchased a new leather sofa from dfs and the salesman tried to sell us a 5 year stain cover. Has anyone had any experience with this type of insurance cover and whether it is worth paying £225 for.

  • To be honest I wouldn't even pay that much for one of their sofas!

I bought some leather sofas about 5 years ago from DFS (I think - it has been a long time!). No insurance, not even used the 6-monthly leather treatments I spent £25 on and my sofas are still fine!!

If the sofas cost £2500+ and the stain insurance covered natural wear and tear, all types of spillages etc etc then maybe I'd pay, otherwise no.
  • I don't think it's really worth it for leather as most things will just wipe off it anyway.

In addition, if an accidental spillage caused a permanent stain then this should be covered under your home contents insurance (assuming you've got the accidental damage option of course).

Thanks for that, I hadn't even considered our contents insurance. I'll look into it. Many thanks for your help.

I find stardrops is very good.
It removes the blue dye that you get off black/blue jeans that transfer onto our cream sofa.
Try a non-visible are first though as it's quite concentrated.

Personally I would not take one of these insurances.
My impression is that they are overpriced with lots of clauses.

If it is a light colour be very careful with ballpoint pens (particularly black) I have found the mark impossible to remove if not treated immediately.
I have retired from a career in Financial Services........Thank God. Any advice given may be as a result of senile dementia so dont take it too seriously.......;)
