Joint Savings account monthly interest account advice

Hi,
In need of some advice with joint savings account money and would appreciate any ideas from your clever money saving people :-)

I've currently got £16,745 sitting in a joint account (Bonus saver with Nationwide) with my partner and i'm wondering if anyone has any ideas where I could put this money as I was paid the bonus and interest on 31st December 2008 so i'm not tied to the account any longer.

I plan to put the whole lump in an account that pays monthly interest (purely as this makes us feel more motivated). We will also be saving roughly £1,100 a month for the next 12 months in this account with the hope of getting to 30k by December 2009. Not really worried whether it's a joint or personal account neither unless one pays better than the other.

I know i've left it a bit late to get a good fixed rate account but I want to try and atleast gather a few pennies in interest before the country sinks to new lows (I know i'm optimistic haha).

Thanks :-)

p.s. i've already got a halifax account that I signed up for a few weeks ago as it was offering a £50 opening bonus to use it as my current account so I would presume if they offer the best deals at the moment then it will be quicker to open an account.

Current Total = £16,745
Overall target by December 2009 = £30,000
