Getting rid of car
Hi all,
My partner has a pretty old car- I think its a K red Nissa Micra, sitting on the drive way. It's been there for about 3 years, always with the intention of fixing it up and using it one day - but well you know how these things go, it never happened!
It now smells incredibly of mould inside the car (we think it's in the seat cushioning) and we need the space on the driveway, so my question is what's the best way of getting rid of a non-starter and hopefully getting something, if only a few £'s for it to add to the holiday fund!
Do we go with those adverts that offer you cash for scrap? Has anybody ever used one of these before, how does it work, are they any good?
Do we advertise it on ebay or elsewhere as a non starter for spares?
Or is there another option we haven't considered?
Thank you in advance for any suggestions/advice,
S

scrap metal prices are pretty low, i would be happy if someone came and took it away for free, anything else would be a bonus
you could donate it to your local college0 -
scrap prices have risen again slightly, just not anywhere near as good as during the summer.
i would stick it on ebay as spares or repairs,be totally honest with it though.
there isnt too many of these older micras on the road these days so someone might want it to keep thiers going.
getting a few quid for it on ebay is better than nothing....work permit granted!0 -
Donate ot to a local college to see if they want it for budding mechanics?
Probably get about 50 quid for scrap.0 -
I'm thinking 'dumped' for three years, tyres flat, brakes seized.
Will have to be winched/dragged on to trailer.
Ring up advert, cars wanted for scrap. Any offer , bite their hands off.
If you get any money , I think you will very lucky.
But on the other hand , few years ago, you would have to pay to clear your drive.0 -
Thanks all for the advice.
We really like the idea of donating to the local college, so will look into that.0 -
Or donate to local fire service - they can practise cutting people out of it with the jaws of life and other scenarios.
Don't forget to complete the relevant section of the V5C/logbook when you dispose of the vehicle and send to DVLA.

Make sure you put it as sold (not scrapped) unless you actually break it up yourself .0
