  • I'm back! Its a good job I don't mind a bit of whispering behind my back..I'm thick skinned most of the time! However when half the cafe is obviously pointing you out and wispering about mystery shoppers...grumble grumble...... To be fare I might as well have gone in naked I wouldn't have been any more obvious! As everone else was in army greens I stood out like a [STRIKE]sore thumb [/STRIKE]mystery shopper! Ah well the things I do to earn extra cash:rotfl:. Most of the chaps were about 18 years old:eek: so unless I wanted to take up cradle snatching no real eye candy either:rotfl:Good news my baquette was very tasty:p

  • Sorry its me again!

Just catching up on RTs thread and wanted to tell you all about my car problem too! (Never one to be left out!)

I've had a feeling for a while its a bit of a Friday afternoon car, today whilst turning I get a metal on metal clunking type noise, when I went over a small speed bump (slowly!) it sounded like something metal had fallen off!! Looked back and could not see anything, anyway I am wondering if now is the time to get rid, its only 5 years old but to be honest its a ford and its carp!!:rotfl: I wanted to keep it at least until the mortage is paid off but I need a relable car as I work all over the place and also one evening so would hate to be left stranded, I just get the feeling its going to start costing mega bucks.
The problem being I quite like having the work horse of the family, you know the one that can be parked anywhere with out the slightest fear someone might take a fancy to it! It transports the dog, goes to bootsales, tip runs (just have to keep an eye on it at the tip in case someone thinks its one of the skips, if I had a 'new' second hand car I would get the hump if the dig dropped hairs all over it or chewed the boot or if someone bumped into in the carpark etc. etc. so it may be more stress than its worth:rolleyes:

Decisions decisions, I hate decisions! Well actually its the money spending decisions I hate!

PS anyone got a reliable cheapish car for sale, will swap for a five year old cronky ford??

  • Great offer on at all Tesco, includes Rose, White and Merlot was £6.99 reduced to £3 per bottle: Its the Wolf Blass, if you buy six bottles you get a further 5% too, if you still have any of your Tesco vouchers after paying for NIMs OU take them into store and they will double them up against wine. Offer is not on wine driect from Tesco for some reason:confused: Can vouch for the wine, even at £6.99 its a good price!

Try RapidFit for Fords; basically it is set up so that the older vehicles can be serviced and maintained at a price less than upto 3-year olds (at least round us).

You may have a disc problem (any sign of scoring on the disc or binding/pulling on brakes) indicated by the noise on turning (was it front or rear on the drop over the speed bump?). Either way, I'd look to get it checked.

Obviously once a car starts needing extra spend over the routine service and parts (discs, pads, exhaust if you do short runs) then it's time to look to replace. In your case you may not be hit with much more than £300 or so; far less than the price to change!

    Good luck
  • Hey TPA - I would go with Stuart's idea of Ford's Rapidfit, based at the main dealers but lower pricing.
To really make you feel better, try hearing Audi tell you that they would like £1,900, now dropped down to "just" £1,500 for work on Mrs RT's car. Considering it's worth around £7-8,000 we have decided not to bother. They appear to be wanting to make the point that you take it out of their franchised dealer network at you peril but thats a lot of issues on a 7 year old car.
It's Part Ex time and Audi wont be on the list - seriously questioning just how good they are.
And on another rant - seriously wanting to buy British built this time !
    RosieTiger - Highest £242,000 Feb 2004

    MFi3T2 and T3 No 28 - Dec 2009 Start Balance £117,000
Current Position-Fully off set by savings since March 2013

In that case it has to be a Jaguar now that they've improved in the JD Power Surveys for reliability. I think you have the XK in mind but the XF is well rated especially in the new 3.0 diesel which is better than the 2.7, unless you want to wait until March for the new XJ which will set you back about £58-60k :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I've seen one XF which I would love to own
