Very poor credit report

I thought I would check my credit score today, I had only looked at the history before and not my actual score and my score is 270 which is very poor :(

I lost my job in devon in september so I could not get one til mid october, I had moved into rented accommodation in devon from the west midlands and put all my spendings on credit card, therefore hoping to move them across to a new credit card in october but my parents which I have all my cards registered to moved house, therefore I was not on the electral roll. Which I did not know, and kept appling to different credit cards, not knowing it affects your credit history.

Now im unable to get any credit, and I have also just been made part time at my full time job so im kind of in need of some help, I live in rented accommodation in Portsmouth now.

I wanted to transfer my £1000 from mbna and £500 from my rbs card and £600 from my barclay card to a cheap rate.

It says I have £3500 of outstanding debt's so If I dont apply to any credit cards within the next 6 months I will be able to my credit back to a level which it once was, very good. I never missed any payments or anything before. Is that a lot of debt? I am only 22.

Get yourself on the electoral roll tout suite and don't apply for any more credit.

as cif says all searches will have gone in 12 months i would wait at least 6-9 months (i would wait 9 months) as after each search falls off you score will improve!
    you cant change yesterday
but you can make tomorrow better

Huh, where did the OP say they were a taxi driver ? Or have I missed something ?

To become a taxi driver you need to get a licence and this will require up front funding. If you are struggling with debt this may not be the best idea. Perhaps working some evenings in a bar would help earn some extra pennies.

    Good Luck.

Hi Richard, you situation sounds quite similar to my own! I'm 23, want to transfer a balance from my HSBC card, applied for two back in Sept and was declined because I wasn't on the electoral roll... got myself on the roll, applied again and was declined. Won't apply again for another year or so, and will be putting it down to lesson learnt!

Its very unfair though because I did not know I was not on the electoral roll and it takes the local council about 2-3 months to sort it out. Then I waited til I was on it and applied to another but declined again so decided to check my credit score and there it was why it was constantly happening. I had carried out 2 credit reports before but never paid to look at the additional score details so thought everything was ok.

Hi. I would not really bother with this credit score that you get from the credit reference place. Each lender has their own method of scoring. Experian/Equifax/Call Credit are just making money from this. If the council has you on the electoral roll now, they will have written to confirm this. Send Experian or whatever one you dealt with a copy of the letter and they will manually load you onto their database rather than wait for the main electoral register to be sent to them. That is a start. To be honest, if the lender can trace you for maybe 4 years then they should be happy with that. Having said that, with this credit crunch, they might be really picky. Don't know if that helps any.
